Protect the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming
The University of Guelph’s certified organic research and learning farm will be severely impacted by the proposed new Honey Bee Research Centre (HBRC) to be built on-top of the most biodiverse hectare on campus. What little will be left of The Farm will not be viable. The new HBRC needs a new site.
The Ontario Agricultural College (The Farm is in the OAC) claims it is now seeking alternative sites for the HBRC, but the architect selection announcement makes clear they intend to use The Farm's site, stating: "Our plan is to integrate the new centre within parts of U of G known for nature, food production and sustainability". There is only one site that meets those criteria – The Farm – and "integrate" means take over the most of the site.
We have requested a signed statement from the OAC to not harm The Farm.
This campaign is run by Friends of the Guelph Centre for Urban Organic Farming (Friends of The Farm), a group of concerned citizens.
The Farm is a one hectare hidden gem on the University of Guelph campus created in 2008 that grows food, offers experiential learning opportunities in a supervised educational facility to explore urban organic food production on a year-round basis.

Lots of ways to get involved beyond sharing the campaign after we launch. There is always work to be done around the farm and we can help you find a task that fits. On the campaign there will be roles big and small.
Please provide as much info as you can if you have ideas on how you can contribute. If you don’t know and just want to get your hands dirty that’s great too!
